Weird to see that it was Faf du Plessis who dropped the catch: Swann
Former England spinner Graeme Swann has surprised to see Faf du Plessis’ dropped catch against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a sensational four-wicket win over CSK at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi with some otherworldly power-hitting from West Indies batsman Kieron Pollard. Pollard alone won the match for his team smashing an unbeaten innings of 87 runs off just 34 balls with 6 fours and 8 sixes.
On many occasions, CSK fielders rushed in to attack the ball to get a catch instead of hanging back and ended up giving away fours. But one of the best fielders in international cricket, du Plessis dropped match-winner Pollard’s catch at square leg when he’s batting at 70.
Swann pointed out this incident and said that missing a catch of a player like Pollard, it would mean losing a match. But he also said that the dropped catch showed du Plessis’ immense pressure at that moment.
“I don’t care what you say about high chases, and incredible strike rates, this (Faf dropping Pollard) was the biggest moment of the game. Faf du Plessis is undoubtedly one of the best fielders in world cricket, you can’t argue that. He never drops anything, especially at the boundary ropes. And he dropped that just shows the pressure that he was in.
“He dropped Kieron Pollard, and with it, he dropped the game. There is no way Mumbai Indians are getting over the line at that point. The ground is too small for Kieron Pollard. But it’s not too small for everyone else. Other people missed catches – it’s cool. Pollard missed catch – it’s done. When he gave you a chance, it had to be taken. Weird to see that it was Faf du Plessis who dropped the catch and cost the game. I never I thought I would ever see that,” Swann said on Star Sports.
