Bangladesh lost the Test series by 0-2 to South Africa including heavy defeats in both Tests. Shakib, who was rested for the Tests and returned for limited-overs series, believes Tests won’t have a great effect in ODIs.

“I don’t think Test series will cause a great effect in the ODIs. Because it’s a different game now. Everyone is focusing on ODIs because we did not perform well in Tests. So the ODIs will be a chance for us to prove ourselves,” he told the reporters in Kimberley.

“We will definitely play for a win. Obviously the condition will be challenging for us. It applies for all the other teams. When South Africa visited our country they faced the same difficulties and lost the series. Every player will try to give their best in the upcoming series.

“I think if we think too much about the result, then the chance of success will be reduced. So we will try to do our basic things in a proper way. Good batting, bowl well and in proper areas; if we can do these basic things right then there will be chance for ourselves,” he explained.

Shakib hopes the batsmen score runs in the upcoming crucial series against the hosts.

“The important thing is scoring in the main match. If someone scores a hundred in the practice match and does not score in the main game, that is not important. We hope that all our batsmen will try to do well. It is very normal that in one match every batsman will not be able to do well. But if three or four people do well at the top, then it becomes easy for the following batsmen,” he said.
