We’re as good as our tea, says Sri Lankan ODI captain Lahiru Thirimanne

A video by Sri Lanka’s stand-in One-day International (ODI) captain Lahiru Thirimanne went viral on social media yesterday as it reminded Pakistan fans of the infamous video of the captured Indian Air force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman.

While speaking in the video shared on his Twitter account, Thirimanne said that he is looking forward to the limited-overs series against Pakistan.

“We are really excited for the Pakistan tour,” said Thirimanne. “We want to showcase that we are as good as our tea. Yess you heard it right !! We are as good as our tea  Best of Luck Pakistan,” he said.

Fans from Pakistan were quick to link Thirimanne’s video with the interrogation video of the captured Indian Air force pilot Abhinandan.

The Indian pilot’s words “Tea is fantastic” in the interrogation video took  social media by storm earlier this year.

In the meantime, Sri Lankan sports minister Harin Fernando is all set to visit Pakistan early next week, it is learnt here.

According to the ministry sources in Sri Lanka, the hon. minister will leave for Karachi on Sunday or Monday.

“He is scheduled to stay in the same hotel, where the members of the visiting Sri Lankan team are staying”, a source in Colombo revealed.

It could not be confirmed whether the minister would stay till the 3rd and the last ODI is played in Karachi on October 3.

Few Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials are visiting Pakistan in batches.

“The president Shammi Silva will leave on Saturday and the hon. secretary Mohan de Silva will be in Pakistan on Sunday”.

The delegates and both teams are invited by the Chief Minister of Sindh on Monday.
