‘What if Stokes mankaded Kohli?’ – asks Warne
Jos Buttler’s unusual dismissal of ‘mankad’ run out during Monday’s Rajasthan Royals vs Kings XI Punjab in IPL has raised eyebrows as former Australian great Shane Warne slams the type of dismissal.
In the 13th over of Royals’ chase for 185 runs, Punjab skipper Ashwin was lining up to deliver the ball to Sanju Samson with Englishman Buttler, who looked good for his 43-ball 69 runs, at the non-striker’s end.
Just before releasing the ball, Ashwin decided to go back letting Buttler walk out of his crease and dislodge the bails. Visiting side Kings XI appealed for it. The third umpire eventually declared Buttler run out.
Cricket experts including current and former players criticised Ashwin’s act although he defended his attempt after the match which his side won by 14 runs in their first game of the season.
Rajasthan’s brand ambassador, Warne lashed out at Ashwin and even Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle on Twitter after the match. The Aussie described the act ’embarrassing and disgraceful’ and argued Bhogle for defending it.
In his recent tweet, Warne questioned whether it had been okay if Ben Stokes did the same to Kohli.
“Sorry – one more thing to add. If Ben Stokes did what Ashwin did to Kohli it would be ok ? I’m just very disappointed in Ashwin as I thought he had integrity & class. Kings lost a lot of supporters tonight. Especially young boys and girls ! I do hope the BCCI does something.”
