“Whether Dhoni wants to return, that’s for him to decide” – Ravi Shastri

India national team head coach Ravi Shastri speaks up about the future of veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni and confirms that whether Dhoni wants to comeback or not, the decision is completely on Dhoni himself.

Dhoni hadn’t involved in any competitive cricket since the semi-final match against New Zealand at World Cup in July this year. He has been in vacation and spending some great time with family and friends. MS Dhoni served in the Indian armed force for a couple of days in August and then moved to America to attend in a golf championship. The popular cricketer has been spotted recently playing football in a charity game in Mumbai with Indian famous tennis player Leander Peas.

The 38-year old Dhoni had also withdrawn his name from South Africa and Bangladesh T20Is. He is likely to be available to play again for India against West Indies in December.

As Dhoni had decided to stay away from cricket for some time, there raised much controversies about his retirement. But coach Shastri ruled out the rumor and said that only Dhoni will decide his own future.

“He (Dhoni) will go down  as one of our greatest players, very, very high up the list.  Whether he wants to return, that’s for him to decide. I have not met him after the World Cup. He needs to initially begin playing and we should perceive how things go,” said Shastri.
