Once being the champion under the captaincy of David Warner, it was hard for Sunrisers Hyderabad to let Warner go and perhaps even harder to find a replacement of him both in terms of captaincy and as a batsman.

The former Aussie vice-captain was the highest run getter in the past two seasons of IPL.

However, Alex Hales was put on in the batting gap, Kiwi hard hitter Kane Williamson was selected to lead the side, a batsman, who, might not make it way to the team had Warner been in there.

Whatever it was, Sunrisers slide things behind them, has made a flying start in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League, leapfrogged Rajasthan Royals by 9 wickets to open the tournament.

Williamson, therefore, said “I don’t think anyone can replace Davey (David Warner). He’s world class, has performed in the last couple of years or so and probably been some of the best of the competition. Certainly, it’s been a big loss for us. Saha had to come in into that opening role. We know he is a fantastic player. So, we’ll look forward to those two to put together some partnerships,” admitted the vacuum of Warner is hard to be filled.

“It was a great opportunity. I’m fortunate to be able to do that. Obviously it happened very quickly. As things unfolded, we were sort of in contact a little bit. And having been at the franchise for a little while, it was a privilege to get asked. The guys have been really good and it was nice to come out today and play well as a unit, work hard in the field and I think that’s a key attribute to the performance today,” Williamson noted about his new role.

“Last year he certainly burst on to the scene… He was really looking to get the opportunity and it was a long time coming,” Williamson said praising Siddharth Kaul.

“And he was an outstanding performer for Sunrisers last year; very consistent and a very good death bowler. Today was an extension of that and he bowled very nicely,” he added.

After Shakib Al Hasan and Siddharth Kaul went for big pick-ups when Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to field first, Shikhar Dhawan also made it a show to watch for the home crowd.

Shakib Al Hasan, playing for his first match for the Sunrisers Hyderabad after prolong period of services to Kolkata Knight Riders, blazed with the ball in hand.

Bowling full quota of 4 overs, Shakib conceded only 23 runs to take 2 wickets including that of the highest scorer of Rajasthan Royals – Sanju Samson.

All the five bowlers used by Williamson in the match brought him a breakthrough each with Shakib and Shiddharth hit twice.

Dhawan’s 57 ball 77 runs thrashed the Rajasthan bowlers’ soon to eclipse the low target of 125 runs. After being dropped in the very first over by Ajinkya Rahane, Dhawan throttled in full gear not to look back in the match till he ended up unbeaten scoring the half century.

Wiiliamson said, “T20 cricket is a very aggressive form of cricket, Shikhar has been in a really good shape for some time and he had a good year in last year that he intended to show today.”

“What he has done for India was superb and it is just an outstanding form from him. To keep the pressure on to Rajasthan bowlers and heat the ball so clean, so it was nice to watch; hopefully he could continue to keep this throughout the tournament,” Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper said.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their second match of the league on April 12, against Mumbai Indians.

Mustafizur Rahman, is the second Bangladeshi to feature in the Indian Premier League. Being a part of the Sunrisers’ team in last two years, Mustafizur is playing for Mumbai Indians this year.
