Windies outplay World XI in charity T20I

Windies have dominated star-studded ICC World XI in the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge at Lord’s with a 72-run win. This is Windies’ fourth-biggest win in T20Is.

World XI captain Shahid Afridi decided to bowl first. Windies openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis made contrasting starts. Lewis was off to a flyer in 75-run opening stand. Gayle struggled in his 28-ball 18 runs.

Lewis brought up his third half-century in 23 balls. He made 58 runs from 26 deliveries including 5 fours and 5 sixes. He was dismissed as the first wicket of the match by Rashid Khan.

Shoaib Malik bowled Gayle later. Afridi, who was not fully fit on his return to cricket after two months, took the wicket of Andre Fletcher.

Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin stepped on the gas. Samuels hit 22-ball 43 runs with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Andre Russell scored some valuable runs on his return to Windies after two years.

Russell and Ramdin took Windies to 199/4 in 20 overs. Ramdin made unbeaten 44 runs in 25 balls hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. Russell smacked three sixes in his 10-ball.

Rashid took two price wickets but went for 48 runs. Afridi took 1/34. Debutant Sandeep Lamichhane bowled only one over and gave 12 runs without any wicket.

Windies troubled World XI with the ball at the start. Russell sent Tamim Iqbal for 2 in the second over which was followed by a double wicket maiden over by Samuel Badree as he took dismissed Luke Ronchi and Dinesh Karthik for ducks.

The World XI turned 8/4 when Sam Billings fell to Russell. Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera then stopped the collapse. 30 runs were scored in the powerplay.

Malik was given lbw for 12 off Windies captain Carlos Brathwaite. Afridi came out to bat with a runner in his last international innings. Billings ran for him as he registered 11 runs before getting out to Keemo Paul.

Perera was the only batsman to score a good amount of runs. He made his second T20I fifty and also crossed 1000 runs in this format. He scored career-best 61 runs off 37 balls including 7 fours and 3 sixes. Kesrick Williams took a good catch on his own bowling to dismiss Perera.

World XI were dismissed for 127 runs in 16.4 overs. Tymal Mills did not come out to bat with injury.

Williams picked 3 wickets for 41 runs. Badree took 2 for 4 in three overs.
