Scotland put Windies to bat first in Harare. The Windies lost Chris Gayle off the first ball. Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels put on 121-run stand after their side were 2/2. Lewis scored 66 off 87 with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Samuels made 98-ball 51.

The Scottish kept run scoring right and picked wickets at crucial moments after breaking the third-wicket partnership. Windies never bounced back from the collapse. They bowled Windies out for 198 runs in 48.4 overs.

Safyaan Sharif and Brad Wheal scalped three wickets each for Scotland.

In reply, Windies hit back with the ball leaving Scotland rattling at 25/3. Scotland’s middle-order added some small contributions to keep their hopes alive. Richie Berrington made 33 but was given lbw in a controversial way.

George Munsey (32*) and Michael Leask (14*) were making Scotland’s way to victory. But rain arrived at the score of 125/5 in 35.2 overs. Scotland were left 5 runs behind.

Rain got heavier which gave Windies a narrow win and a qualification to World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.

Windies are topping the table with 8 points in super six. Scotland have no further chance of qualifying. Now, either Zimbabwe or Afghanistan or Ireland will qualify for last one spot. If Zimbabwe beat United Arab Emirates Thursday (March 22), they are through. But if a miracle happens, it comes down to the last super six match between Ireland and Afghanistan.

Brief scores:

Windies 198 allout in 48.4 overs (Lewis 66, Samuels 51; Sharif 3/27, Wheal 3/34)

Scotland 125/5 in 35.2 overs (Berrington 33, Munsey 32*; Roach 2/20, Nurse 2/35)

Windies won by 5 runs (D/L method)
