Winnipeg Hawks claim Global T20 Canada 2019 title in Super Over thriller
The second edition final of the Global T20 League turned out to be moment’s thriller that saw Winnipeg Hawks eclipsing reigning champions Vancouver Knights to clinch the title at the CAA Center, Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
The match was initially tied as both teams fall into 192 in their allotted overs. Vancouver Knights managed only 9 runs in Super Over. Hawks spent 4 deliveries to score the required runs and dethrone Knights from the title.
During the main course of play, Winnipeg Hawks gathered 192 losing 8 in 20 overs after being sent into bat first.
Hawks had an explosive start with the opening pair Shaiman Anwar and Chris Lynn stood for the first wicket partnership of 73 in just six overs.
After Lynn dismissed by Andre Russell, it was 40-year old Anwar who continued the onslaught over the opposition smashing 90 off just 45 balls. With a strike rate of 200, his innings feathered 8 boundaries and 7 over boundaries.
Chasing 193, Vancouver Knights fall apart losing 5 wickets with just 139 runs on the board. But Russell have had other thoughts in him when he came to the crease with the team needing 54 off 19 deliveries.
Russell bulldozed the opposition bowlers on his way to a boundary-studded unbeaten 46 off 20 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes as Vancouver Knights eventually ended in a tie.
