Young boy’s big dream to meet Virat Kohli
Uneth Pieris, a 14-year-old boy of Moratuwa who recently hammered 58 runs in 13 balls in an inter-academy U-15 championship has a dream to meet Team India captain Virat Kohli.
Uneth of Champ Cricket Academy had hit 7 sixes (not six as reported in the media) and three fours against Bradfield Cricket Academy at Moratuwa Vidyalaya Ground.
Speaking exclusively over the telephone, he said,
“Kusal Perera is my favorite national cricketer. I have also met Kusal Mednis and Vishwa Fernando. But my big dream is to meet Virat Kohli at least once.”
“I like the way he handles the game in every situation. He is a great batsman in all formats of the game. He handles pressure easily and a great captain. I have watched him how he handles the team.”
Uneth himself likes all three formats. His fast fifty was watched by his father Udesh Pieris, who works as a store keeper. “My father was at the ground watching my entire innings. It made him proud as well. My teammates, including captain Rivith Jayasuriya were absolutely delighted with my game, which made our team win.”
“I went in when there were 3 overs left and his big best score enabled the team to reach a good score (214/5).”
“Sixteen teams are participating in this Inter-academy tournament and Uneth’s score was a morale boosting for our team because we lost the first game though scoring 242 runs against SA Cricket Academy,” the academy coach Kushan Jaywickrame says.
Uneth is a student of Prince of Wales College. His mother Nadeeka (housewife) and sister Nethumi were equally delighted with the performance.
