Young cricketer dies after collapsing while batting in Kolkata
A young cricketer in a Kolkata club died after collapsing on the field during a friendly match on Wednesday.
22 year old Sonu Yadav, playing for Ballygunge Sporting Club in Cricket Association of Bengal’s second division league was performing in a match at the Bata Club ground.
The cause of Sonu’s death is not yet known as medical authorities have said that they will conduct a post-mortem.
At 11.30 in the morning on Wednesday, he suddenly fell ill and collapsed while batting. Taken to the nearby SSKM hospital instantly, he was declared dead.
Sonu, who was regarded as a promising wicket keeper batsman, is survived by his parents and two brothers.
Club official Shyamal Banerjee said,
“I cannot believe Sonu is no more. Sonu was a very talented cricketer. I heard the news in the afternoon. Heard Sonu was playing with his friends because our club did not have any match.”
A few years back, another junior Bengal player Aniket Sharma had lost his life collapsing on the field while playing at the Paikpara ground.
