The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon has already indicated that keeping the 2023 World Cup in mind they would choose a new captain for the 50-over side.

However, be if Mashrafe’s last ODI series as captain or not, just the presence of the cricketer is enough source of excitement for two youngsters of the side, Mohammad Naim and Afif Hossain.

Both the cricketers have already tasted the experience of playing international cricket as they played a number of T20I matches, but they are yet to play alongside, or under Mashrafe’s captaincy, in the ODI team.

“I am lucky that I am going to play under Mashrafe bhai. I did not expect this much. Never thought I even would play in national team. From the age group I thought step by step how I shold play,” said Naim prior to their travel for Sylhet on Thursday.

All three matches of the Zimbabwe ODI series will take place in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The series will kickstart on March 1, with the next to scheduled for March 3 and 6.

Another youngster Afif also feels that Mashrafe’s return to the ODI side will only embolden the group.

“We are a good side. And now Mashrafe bhai is also back. Overall if we can play our natural game we will win against Zimbabwe,” said the 20-year-old cricketer.

Like Naim, Afif too expressed his joy over getting to the ODI side.

“I was eagerly waiting for it for many days. I played T20Is, when I would get call-up in the ODI side. My dream has come true and will try to do something for the team.”
