Bangladesh U19 have secured a big win their first match of ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln. They have defeated Namibia U19 by 87 runs in a rain-affected clash.
Rain delayed the start of play by 5 hours. Play started at 3:30 pm local time and it was reduced to 20 overs per side. Bangladesh opener Pinak Ghosh hit Petrus Burger for back-to-back boundaries on first two balls. Pinak departed scoring 17-ball 26.
Skipper Saif Hassan and Mohammad Naim stepped on the gas and scored runs quickly. They added 97 runs for the second wicket. Opener Naim scored 60 runs from 43 balls with 8 fours and a six.
Saif top-scored in the innings. He made 48-ball 84 runs hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes. Bangladesh U19 posted 190 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh got early breakthroughs in Namibia’s innings. Namibians lost four wickets for 12 runs. Eben van Wyk settled himself at crease. He scored 55 runs off 52 deliveries including 6 fours and 2 sixes. He put on 69 with Nicol Loftie-Eaton for the fifth wicket. Loftie-Eaton made 24 runs.
But Namibia couldn’t recover from the early blow. They were restricted to 103/6 in overs after they were set 191 runs to win. Qazi Onik and Hasan Mahmud took two wickets each and they were very economical as well.
Bangladesh’s next game in Group C will be against Canada on January 15.
