Prior to the commencement of the third season of the BRB Cables Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Comilla Victorians owner Nafisa Kamal couldn’t hide her frustration for not being able to rope in Shakib Al Hasan in the team as they had a void of quality all-rounder.

But fortunate for them that they got a silent performer in Pakistan-born English cricketer Ashar Zaidi, who filled the lack of a quality all-rounder in the Comilla fold. And not only that, as far as the on-field performance is concerned, the Sussex cricketer has been even better than the world’s best all-rounder during the BPL-3.

Since getting a chance to feature for the Victorians in their second match of the tournament, Zaidi has been in no stopping mood. He scored 199 runs and took 16 wickets in the 10 matches he played for Victorians.

The 34-year-old senior citizen was instrumental in ticking the scoreboard for the last death overs and giving crucial breakthrough when it mattered.

“He has been doing amazing job. He exceeded our expectation. Hopefully he will keep it up,” Mashrafe said about Zaidi.

“Zaidi filled the lack of an all-rounder what we were craving for. We didn’t expect that he will be our mainstay in batting, bowling or fielding. But he did it and enriched our team,” said coach Salahuddin.
