Zaidi's all round brilliance
Ashar Zaidi had been the silent killer for Comilla Victorians throughout the BPL. His penetrative and penurious left arm spin and effective middle order batting has been the key in Comilla’s surge to the finals. In the qualifiers, he was at his all round best, thereby winning the man of the match award.
When he came to bat, wickets were falling in heaps at the other end despite a great start by Imrul Kayes. He started going after the bowlers from Ball 1, as there were not many deliveries left. He used his feet brilliantly, and hit a couple of huge sixes against Nabi and Sunny. He also played the ball late at times when needed, and ensured he did not waste any deliveries. When the innings ended, he was unbeaten on 40 off just 15 balls.
But he was not done by just wielding the willow. He weaved some spin magic as well, racking up enviable figures of 4/11. He almost single handedly took care of the much vaunted middle order of Rangpur Riders, bowling some turning deliveries as well as the arm ball to good effect.
He deserved to get the Man of the match award as well as the Motorbike. If he keeps this form up, not only Comilla might end up as BPL season 3 champions, Zaidi might get a hand on the keys of the car awarded for the man of the tournament as well.
