Aakash Chopra picks all time best IPL XI
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has been very busy over the social media after the cricketing events has came to a standstill due to COVID-19 pandemic. He has picked his all-time IPL XI led by MS Dhoni.
He picked MS Dhoni, ahead of Rohit Sharma. He reasoned that the Chennai Super Kings’ captain deserves the nod as the 3-time champions are dominating in the tournament in the last few years under Dhoni’s captaincy.
The former openar revealed the all-time IPL XI on his YouTube channel. He restricted the number of foreigners to four in the team he picked according to regulation.
The cricketer turned commentator picked David Warner ahead of Chris Gayle as the overseas opener. He also reasoned for having Warner ahead of Gayle.
“My first pick is David Warner, the first overseas player as an opener. You will also think of Chris Gayle, but he is not more consistent than David Warner. He (Gayle) has been explosive but Warner is not behind anyone. So, Warner as one of the overseas players. He has been one of the most consistent batsmen ever.”
To complete the opening pair, Chopra went to Rohit Sharma. He also insisted that although, the Mumbai Indians skipper had played quite often in the middle-order in the IPL, there was no question of the ‘Hitman’ in the opening slot. Unsurprisingly, Chopra went for the RCB captain Virat Kohli as the one-down batsman. Suresh Raina will follow Virat Kohli at number four .
AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni will play the role of finishers at number 5 and 6 spots. Besides, he has named Dhoni as the captain and the wicket-keeper of the team as Dhoni has successfully led the CSK to the playoffs in all the years.
As the spinners, Chopra picked Harbhajan Singh and Sunil Narine. While, Narine is undoubtedly the best in the death overs. The next three consecutive spots have been slotted for the pacers. These are Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga respectively.
Gautam Gambhir and Andre Russell has been chosen as the 12th and 13th player.
