Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera and Pakistan veterans Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi have confirmed their participation for ICC World XI in a charity T20I against Windies in late May this year.
Lord’s Cricket Ground will host World XI and Windies on May 31 to raise fund for stadia in Caribbean which were awfully damaged by hurricanes Ima and Maria last year.
Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in BVI and Carib Lumber Ball Park in St Maarten are the venues which were damaged by the storms.
The charity match will be held in support of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Windies have already named their squad with Carlos Brathwaite being their captain. Andre Russell is set for an international comeback. Chris Gayle was also included in the squad.
The World XI will be led by English captain Eoin Morgan. So far, four names have been announced. The rest will be announced soon.
World XI played their first-ever T20I last year against Pakistan in Pakistan. They played three T20Is there and won one under Darren Sammy.
In January 2005, World XI and Asia XI faced off at Melbourne Cricket Ground in a ODI to raise funds for tsunami victims in 2004.
