England pacer James Anderson overtook India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja to grab the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Player Rankings. Anderson’s superb effort in the third and final Test at Lord’s helped the pacer leapfrog Jadeja into top spot with a 12-point lead.
Anderson, who was the top-ranked bowler in August 2016, has reclaimed the spot to become the oldest bowler to be number-one ranked since Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralidaran in July 2009 and the oldest pace bowler to be at the top since Australia’s Glenn McGrath in January 2006.
Meanwhile, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin continues to be third in the rankings while Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath held on to his fourth place.
The 35-year-old Englishman, courtesy his brilliant bowling in the third and final Test against the West Indies, helped his team seal the Test series 2-1.
