Anderson reveals the favourites for 2019 WC
England’s experienced campaigner James Anderson shared his opinion about his team and its chances of winning the World Cup. He said that his team needs to work really well in order to give the best shot at the tournament. Anderson’s comments came after team’s dramatic ODI international series draw against the Windies.
Earlier, Alastair Cook said that England are the favourites to win the competition. The team is dominating the rankings charts as they are on top of the able but they were given a tough competition by the Caribbeans and Anderson believes there is still a lot more areas that England needs to work on to make sure that all the bases are covered.
Even as the 36-year-old Anderson reckons that England are the favourites, he still has some doubts in mind about his team. He said he would be disappointed if his team doesn’t make the semis. “I’d be really disappointed if England don’t make the semis. Before the one-day series my head was nailed on and thinking ‘we’re definitely winning it’.
“But then 2-2 against the West Indies, I know slightly different conditions, but it has not necessarily told me that England weren’t up to it but just showed the West Indies are still a threat,” he adds.
According to Anderson, as many as 10 teams have the cpapability to reach the semis. However, he still hopes that England can win the competition. “So in my head now, there are 10 teams that can potentially get into the semi-finals. I’m still hopeful that England can go all the way.”
