Andre Russell’s demolition gives KKR another win in IPL 2019
Another Abdre Russell show helps Kolkata Knight Riders to win the match against Kings XI Punjab by 28 runs of the 6th match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at Eden Garden. KKR posted a huge target of 219 runs. In reply KXIP was able to score 190 runs in 20 overs and KKR made two in two in this year’s IPL.
Losing the toss, KKR came to bat and were dominant from the start. Sunil Narine was destructive in the very 2nd over of the match and gave Varun Chakravarthy a nightmare debut. The debutant went for 25 runs in his first over of his IPL career.
KKR then lost the wickets of Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine in a quick succession. After that, Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa added a huge 110 runs for the third wicket before Varun getting the wicket of Rana for his debut wicket. Rana continued his good form and scored back to back half centuries in this year’s IPL. He scored 63 runs from 34 balls with 2 fours and 7 sixes.
After that, it was just West Indies big all-rounder, Andre Russell’s show. He smashed 48 off just 17 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes to power KKR to a massive total of 218 runs at Eden Garden. Robin Uthappa was unbeaten at 67 runs from 50 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Hardus Viljoen, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakravarthy and Andrew Tye all took one wicket each.
Chasing a huge target of 219 runs, KXIP lost their wicket-keeper Lokesh Rahul’s wicket early. And when Chris Gayle started to gear up, Russell took his wicket at that moment. Gayle scored 20 runs from 13 balls. Sarfaraz Khan also got out by just scoring 13 runs.
Then Mayank Agarwal and David Miller had put on a 50-run stand to get the KXIP chase back on track. But after getting the half century, Agarwal was bowled by Piyush Chawla at 58 runs from 34 balls with 6 fours and 1 six.
The target looked much bigger for KXIP at that stage and they never found a way to reach there. At the end, KXIP were able to score 190 runs by losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. David Miller was unbeaten at 59 runs from 39 balls. Andre Russell took 2 wickets by giving away 21 runs 3 overs.
With the 28 runs victory over KXIP, KKR sits at the top of the table in this year’s IPL.
