Bangladesh got their first win in the ongoing tri-nation series on Friday (May 19) in Dublin when they beat Ireland by 8 wickets. Now Bangladesh have a very good chance to improve their position in the ICC ODI Team Rankings. With 90 points to their name, the Tigers are now at the seventh position. Losing against Ireland could cost them some points.

But now that they have been able to salvage both pride and points, now they need to beat New Zealand in their coming match which would earn them three points and take them to the sixth position. Sri Lanka too have 93 points, but Bangladesh, provided they beat New Zealand in Malahide on May 24, will lag the Lankans behind by a fraction of numbers.

However, the task may not prove to be all that easy for Bangladesh, as they never the Kiwis away from home in the past. This year the sides locked horns with each other several times, with the Kiwis coming out victorius every time. Even in the two team’s previous face off in the ongoing tri-series, the Tigers were dismantled by four wickets.
