Windies posted 271 batting first in the day-night clash. Bangladesh required a quick start to release pressure off them. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque just did that.
Anamul charged Alzarri Joseph in the first over as 11 runs came in that over. He hammered two sixes off Jason Holder in the second over, where 21 runs were scored. The six on the last ball was put onto the roof by Anamul. 32 runs came already in the first two overs.
Anamul was dismissed by being aggressive. Joseph bowled him in the third over to bring up the first wicket. The right-hander smashed 23 runs off just nine deliveries.
The attack continued with Tamim being joined by Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib brought up Bangladesh’s fifty by hitting a four off Joseph in the fifth over. It took only 4.4 overs for Bangladesh to score their fifty, their fastest 50 in ODI record. The previous fastest was 5.3 overs.
Bangladesh scored 79/1 in the powerplay, their most runs in the first powerplay in ODIs away from home. Both Tamim and Shakib have been sent back after scoring respective half-centuries.
