Bangladesh U-23 level series with India U-23 after narrow win

Bangladesh U-23 beat India U-23 to level the five-match series 1-1 courtesy of a brilliant final over from Abu Hider Rony in the rain-affected encounter.

Bangladesh U-23 team defeated India U-23 side by five runs (Duckworth/Lewis method) in the second one-dayer of the five-match series in Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

After losing the first match by 34 runs, Bangladesh came back strongly to win the second. They were on 141/2

when rain interrupted play in the 35th over.  In the end, the Bangladeshi youngsters posted 149 losing two wickets in 36 overs.

There was a surprise in the batting-order as Mahedi Hasan opened the innings with Saif Hassan. It worked quite well as they put a 52-run opening stand. Mahedi scored 25 while Saiff scored a brilliant fifty.

The host were given a target of 218 runs but they felt just short chasing the daunting score. India started their chase quite well with a 77-run opening partnership before both the openers Bhupendra Jayasal and Madhav Kaushik went back in quick succession.

In the last over, they needed nine runs. Abu Haider Rony took two wickets in the last over to give Bangladesh a stunning victory. Sumon Khan also took two wickets and played a crucial part in the victory.

The next match between these two sides will take place on Monday at the same venue.
