Bangladeshi cricketers react to Dhoni’s retirement

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced retirement on Saturday. After the announcement came , it sparked a backlash on social media. From fans to teammates, opponents, former cricketers have all joined this team. Bangladeshi cricketers are no exception.

The world cup winning captain has himself announced his retirement. Dhoni, popularly known as ‘Captain Cool’, confirmed his retirement in a post on Instagram, India’s popular social media site, on Saturday (August 15th). Dhoni himself called himself a retired cricketer from 7:29 PM.

After this announcement, Shakib wrote in a message on popular social media Facebook- ‘Farewell to a great player and an even better opponent- MS Dhoni. Your time in international cricket has been exceptional and inspiring to millions. We only wish you the best in your future endeavors.’ 

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim reacted on social media. Mushfiqur wrote on Facebook, ‘A true genius of the game, living legend and a champion. Congratulations Mahi bhai on an outstanding career.’

Bangladesh T-20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad wrote that Dhoni is a great inspiration in his cricket career. He used to follow how Dhoni tackle situations in the field.

Bangladeshi batsman Imrul Kayes also reacted to Dhoni’s retirement. Imrul posted a picture of himself with Dhoni on social media. Besides, bowler Rubel Hossain, batsman Sabbir Rahman, wicketkeeper batsmen Anamul Haque Bijoy and Liton das also reacted on social media.

Dhoni appeared in international cricket in 2004 with a match against Bangladesh. Dhoni had to return to the dressing room after being run out for zero in that ODI match. But he has given a lot to India in the last 18 years. He is the only captain to have won the Champions Trophy, the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup.
