Regular captain Shakib Al Hasan is not going to UAE because of the commitment with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Guyana Amazon Warriors. Another member is Mahedi Hasan who is in the standby list even if he does not get a place in the World Cup team.
Apart from Mahedi, Soumya Sarkar, Shoriful Islam, and Rishad Hossain are on the World Cup reserve bench. All three of them have been included in the squad for the UAE tour. As a result, the total number of players in the Tigers fleet in the UAE is 17.
Mahedi expressed his disappointment to the media for not getting a place in the main team of the World Cup. In some media interviews, he made a lot of controversial comments. As Mahedi was not in the team, a tangle of mystery was created. However, after the announcement of the team, the reason for Mahedi's absence was revealed.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus said that Mahedi has taken leave for a few days due to family reasons. And for this reason, he could not be kept in the team for the tour of the UAE.
It was already known in absence of Shakib, vice-captain Nurul Hasan Sohan will lead the team in this series.
