BCB vows to improve ‘pitch standard’

After International Cricket Council penalized the top venue of Bangladesh, Shere Bangla National Stadium for substandard pitches, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) promised to raise the quality of wickets for Test matches in coming future. Prior to that, ICC also rated the second most important venue of the country in Chittagong as ‘below average.’

“Since we received this rating, we will be more careful about preparing the venues,” said the board’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury besides informing they are thinking about appealing against demerit points.

ICC match referee David Boon who issued demerit points to both venues said in a statement, “There was evidence of the ball breaking the pitch surface, which resulted in uneven bounce throughout the match, along with inconsistent turn, which was even excessive at times.”

“This pitch produced a contest that was too heavily skewed in favor of the bowlers, and didn’t give the batsmen a fair chance to display their skills,” he also said.

In the first Test match in Chittagong, 1500 runs were scored in between batsmen of two teams before the match ended in a lifeless draw. Whereas visiting Sri Lanka took a hand to hosts Bangladesh within two and half days throwing a 215 runs defeat.
