BCCI rejects Yuvraj Singh’s request to come out of retirement
Yuvraj Singh is undoubtedly one of the greatest match-winners India has ever produced. He was a flamboyant cricketer during his heydays. The former star all-rounder set a unique record for most appearances (7) by a cricketer in ICC tournament finals during his heydays.
He was named the Player of the tournament for his all-round masterclass in 2011 ODI World Cup. The former left-handed cricketer called it quits from international cricket in the year 2019.
In the wake of his retirement, the southpaw was given a green light to take part in the Global T20 Canada. Previously this year, he was also requested by Punjab Cricket Association to come out of retirement in a bid to back the young players in the state team.
He obliged to it and also decided to make a comeback to competitive cricket. Not a long ago, Yuvraj was added in the probables list of the Punjab team in the forthcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 commencing from January 10th, 2021. The tournament will be played till the end of the same month.
According to Times of India, the former Indian cricketer wrote a letter regarding the same to the Board of Control for Cricket in India chief Sourav Ganguly. However, his request was declined by the BCCI for unknown reasons. Now, it’s been confirmed that he would not be making a comeback to competitive cricket.
Yuvraj who was one of the greatest all-rounders during his playing days has featured in 58 T20Is wherein he essayed 1177 runs at a strike rate of 136.38, registering his highest score of 77*. He took 28 wickets at an economy of 7.06 and registered best bowling figures of 3/17.
He represented India in 304 ODIs and 40 Tests. He composed 8,701 runs with a batting average of 36.5, registering his personal best score of 150 against England cricket team. He scored 14 centuries and 52 fifties to his name.
The former cricketer scored 1,900 runs in Test cricket, scoring 3 centuries and 11 fifties. Talking about his record in the IPL, he scored 2,750 runs in 132 games. He scored 13 fifties in the cash-rich Indian Premier League.
Mandeep Singh to skipper Punjab team
Mandeep Singh will lead Punjab state team in the upcoming SMAT 2021. He impressed the cricket fraternity with the bat in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.
He kick-started the innings for Kings XI Punjab as an opener and provided blazing starts for his franchise. Having played 7 games, he scored 130 runs including a match-winning fifty.
