Belim wishes a competitive match at the opening of FIFA World Cup 2018
The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup has been kicked off with the match between Russia and Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The game was on its way after a colorful display of the opening ceremony.
In the inaugural match, hosts Russia brushed aside Saudi Arabia by 5 goals to no.
Former Bangladesh national cricket team opener Javed Omar Belim, after viewing the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2018, said he expected to watch a match of better competitiveness.
Javed Omar also felt blurred about the opening ceremony of the second biggest sporting carnival on earth after the Olympics.
“I am really disheartened,” he said. “Besides the opening ceremony to be more meaningful, I expected to watch a fighting match. At the end, it did not happen at all,” Javed Omar said.
But the former Bangladesh opener did not forget to praise the host nation for their big success.
“It is really appreciating the way Russia hold their nerves to end the match with five goals in their favor,” he said.
For Russia, Yuri Gazinskiy and Cheryshev struck first-half goals to open their international accounts at Luzhniki Stadium, Artem Dzyuba adding a third 89 seconds.
Cheryshev showed up with a fantastic injury-time goal, before Golovin finished the match with a brilliant goal off free-kick.
Before that, the opening ceremony was commenced with a star studded show at the Luzhniki Stadium. Thousands of spectators packed inside the sold-out stadium to witness the dazzling opening ceremony with bells and whistles.
