Ben Stokes out of Sri Lanka tour game
England will be without their star all-rounder Ben Stokes in England’s ongoing tour match in Sri Lanka. Stokes has suffered from abdominal issue inside the practice match.
However, team management has insisted that the issue is not related to coronavirus at all.
Leg-spinner Matt Parkinson has replaced Stokes in the playing XI for the second tour match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI. The first tour match was drawn.
Because of that abdominal issue, Stokes did not come to bat at his usual batting order in the first day of the match yesterday. In his place, Ollie Pope came to bat. But in the second day of the match, it has been confirmed that Stokes will no longer be the part of the team in this match.
An England and Wales Cricket Board statement read: “England all-rounder Ben Stokes won’t be at the ground today and is having abdominal investigations. Full reports are anticipated from London. He will stay at the team hotel.
“All things considered, this is not a viral issue or connected to COVID-19.”
England were all-out for 463 runs in the first innings. Opener Zack Crawley picked-up his second century in the tour and captain Joe Root also hit a century. At the time of writing this report, Sri Lanka Board President’s XI scored 6 runs for 1 wicket.
