Last year, the number of local cricketers was 185 in the players’ draft. This time it has risen to 209. At the same time, their base prices have been increased as demanded by the cricketers.

This year, the base price of the ‘A Plus’ category has been estimated at Tk. 40 to 75 lakh, whereas in the previous BPL this grade was up to 40 to 65 lakh. The base price of ‘A’ grade has been increased to Tk. 25 to lakh. However, the number of cricketers in these two grades is only 14. As a result, the value of the remaining cricketers remains the same.

The selectors’ committee, led by Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar Sumon, has already changed a few players in some grades in the draft proposed players. Liton Das has been degraded from ‘A Plus’ to ‘A’ grade. All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin and spinner Taijul Islam have been upgraded from ‘B’ to ‘A’ grades. Again Soumya Sarkar has been degraded from ‘A’ to ‘B’ grade. The other players who have been deraded from ‘A’ to ‘B’ are Abu Hider Rony, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Ariful Haque and Nazmul Islam Apu.

The countdown to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will begin from December 8. On that day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the tournament. The tournament will be held on December 11 this year.
