BPL 2019-20: Mahmudullah to miss first two matches due to injury
Chattogram Challengers Mahmudullah Riyad will not be able to play in the first two matches of the BPL due to an injury. In the absence of Riyad, the responsibility of the team will be on Imrul Kayes. Team officials confirmed this at the inauguration of the jersey of Chittagong on Monday, December 9.
Mahmudullah had signed a contract with the Chattogram Challengers this season. He had taken the field for Khulna Titans last season. Mahmudullah was injured in a historic day-night Test against India in Kolkata last November. That’s why Chittagong Challengers will play the first two matches without him.
In this regard, Chattogram Challengers Director Jalal Yunus said,
“We do not get Imad Wasim because of injury. For the same reason, Riyad will not be able to play the first one or two matches. But we hope to get him fully later.”
Accordingly, Chattogram had decided who will lead the team in the first two matches.
Although no formal announcement had been made, the responsibility would be given to top-order batsman Imrul Kayes. “It is likely that Imrul is being given the responsibility. We will finalize it in the team meeting. We’ll tell it later,” Jalal Yunus said.
Earlier, Imrul Kayes had experience of captaincy in BPL. Comilla Victorians had been the champions with his captaincy last season. Mahmudullah was the captain of Khulna Titans in the last two BPL season. Returning to the squad, he will continue the responsibility of captaincy.
