Brett Lee names the favourites of IPL 2020
The former Australian pacer, Brett Lee predicts that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the favourites to win the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). MS Dhoni-led CSK franchise did not have a young squad for the last couple of years. After making a comeback to the tournament, they went on to buy the experienced players instead of young players. But, they managed to reach the finals of last two edition and in 2018, they won the title as well.
The former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian Premier League. He has played in 10 seasons for Chennai Super Kings and every time, his team qualified for the playoffs. The right-arm pacer from Australia, Lee, who represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL, believes that experienced players adds more strength to the CSK team.
“I reckon their strength is that their players are a bit more elderly, mature. They’ve got that youth coming through but they’ve got a lot of players who’ve been around a long, long time and I’d say that’s their greatest strength,” Lee said.
The upcoming edition of the IPL is set to be played in the UAE. The tournament was moved out of India due to pandemic coronavirus. The stadiums at Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi will host the games from September 19 to November 10.
The pitches at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will assist the spinners. The yellow men have the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner, Piyush Chawla and Karn Sharma in their squad. According to Lee, CSK, who have world-class spinners in their side, will dominate the IPL at UAE.
“It’s definitely right up there and that will definitely suit those wickets. Recently, I’ve looked at the forecast of the next two or three weeks. It’s 40 degrees, plus the wickets will surely turn. Therefore, I feel CSK will feel a lot more at home. Imagine all those spinners getting big rips, big turn. I reckon they are definitely suited for this tournament and should definitely be favourites,” he added.
