Following the completion of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Dhaka, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday has updated the ICC ODI Team Rankings. Bangladesh whitewashed the visiting Zimbabwe in the series and as a reward of that, they have earned a valuable point and consolidated their 7th spot. With 97 points, they are now 7 points clear ahead of the 8th ranked Pakistan and just two points behind 6th ranked England.

And now according to the calculations, however the result of the onoing series between Pakistan and England pans out, Bangladesh are totally out of danger to lose their spot. And rather they have a very good chance of riding on the 6th spot, provided Pakistan rout England 4-0 in the series.

If Pakistan can win the series 4-0 over England, Pakistan’s points will be 93 while England’s points will be reduced to 95. In that case England will lose their 6th spot to Bangladesh. And even if they can secure a single win against Pakistan, that will be of no help as their points will then stand on 96, one behind Bangladesh’s. So this means losing to Pakistan will also make England lose their ranking to Bangladesh.

However if they can secure a 2-2 draw, they will be able to consolidate their 6th position with remaining on 99 points. And if they can win the series 3-1, they will reach to 101 points. But there is no chance for them to win the series 4-0, as they have already lost the first match by 6 wickets in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The series permutations are:

Pakistan 4 England 0 – Pakistan 93 points England 95 points

Pakistan 3 England 1 – Pakistan 91 points England 96 points

Pakistan 2 England 2 – Pakistan 89 points England 99 points

Pakistan 1 England 3 – Pakistan 87 points England 101 points

Pakistan 0 England 4 – Pakistan 86 points England 102 points
