Business as usual should earn Tigers series whitewash

As expected Bangladesh won the first match of the three matches ODI series against lower rated Zimbabwe by 28 runs.

Imrul-Saifuddin put on 127-run stand for the seventh wicket

1-0 up in the series Bangladesh should go on and win the remaining two matches in Chittagong for earning yet another series white wash.

In the first match at the Sher e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, after batting first, Bangladesh overcame the early reverse posting 271/8.

Opener Imrul Kayes produced his career best epic innings of 144. His seventh wicket partnership of 127 with Saifuddin proved the total of 271/8 too much to chase for the Zimbabweans.

Pegged by accurate bowling they were never in a chase. Only at the last stage some loose bowling by the Bangladesh bowlers brought the margin closer. At no stage of the match visitors could threaten Bangladesh. Tamim and Shakib were not in the team for nursing their injuries, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah made no contribution with the bat, Mashrafe did not take any wicket.

Team Bangladesh on a very rare case in the recent time won an ODI without any contribution from fabulous five.

It will not be proper to experiment too much in the remaining two matches. Fazle Mahmud given opportunity should get another opportunity at least in the second ODI.

Saifuddin has proved his utility as a lower order batsman . His half century should give him required confidence for bowling well also . In the fisrt match only three batsmen Imrul Kayes, Saifuddin and Mohammad Mithun made useful contribution . Lion , Fazle, Mushfique , Mahmudullah , Miraj failed with the bat . Mushfiqur Rahim could reach double figure but the rest even failed to do that . Bangladesh must improve batting a lot to negate impacts of visitors bowling . Bangladesh need scoring at least 270-280 in the remaining two ODIs to defend and earn series white wash.

Bangladesh bowled well till the last few overs .  Mustafizur Rahman was not risked for his full quota of overs as he was complaining for some pains in his elbows . Bangladesh did not have death over specialist Rubel Hossain for injury. Mashrafe on a rare occasion was not among the wickets and was a bit expensive.

Zimbabwe as usual proved vulnerable to spin . Meraz and Nazmul bowled well , Mahmudullah took an important wicket . Chittagong wicket traditionally favor spin . Very diverse Bangladesh attack should continue teasing and tormenting the visitors.

Liton looked a bit out of shorts , Fazle had debutants nerves, Mahmudullah, Meraz got out before settling, Mushfiqur got out to a good ball.

Mithun got start but failed to convert it to a long innings. Team Bangladesh must bat well as a team. Zimbabwean bowling is not that penetrative for Bangladesh to worry about . The first match at least proved two points . Leaving Imrul Kayes out of grace was not correct. Bangladesh must invest more on Saifuddin in the quest of pace bowling all rounder.

If Bangladesh win the second match Bangladesh can try again with Soumya Sarkar in his role at the top order.

Achieving series white wash should be business as usual for Bangladesh.
