Chahar, Pant drive India to clean sweep West Indies
Deepak Chahar and Rishabh Pant starred as India defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the third and final T20 international of the series in Guyana.
Leading from the front, Virat Kohli stitched a half century and stood for a 106-run partnership with young wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant guiding the visitors to comfortably chase down 146 runs target set by the Caribbeans after being sent into bat first.
Kohli staged 59 facing 45 deliveries. His 21st half-century in T20 Internationals, however, had six fours.
Pant, who top-scored for India with an unbeaten knock of 65, scored the winning six to complete the clean sweep in the three match T20I series.
The first half of the game was dominated by Deepak Chahar. The Rajasthan pacer toiled the West Indies’ batsmen hard on the crease. He poised with an incredible bowling figure of 3-1-4-3 including taking all three wickets in his first two overs.
The Caribbean side, at one stage were three down at 14 before Kieron Pollard and Rovman Powell counter attacked with two blistering knocks.
Pollard attacked with a 45 ball 58, the highest score for the team, the innings that contained six shots for sixes along with a single boundary.
Praising high about Chahar, skipper Kohli said,‘We wanted to try out a few players here but the priority was always to win the game.
“Deepak’s skill is really up there with Bhuvneshwar (Kumar). He is really lethal with the new ball.”
On the other hand, Powell made 32 off 20 balls containing a four and two sixes.
India won the first T20I by 4 wickets and in the rain interrupted second T20I, the visiting side came out winning by 22 runs in D/L method.
