Chief selector bats for Hathurusingha
National team’s head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is also one of the members of the selection panel. Still he is not following the domestic cricket of Bangladesh, which is an issue that raised huge controversy within the cricket fraternity of the country. However while announcing Bangladesh squad at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday (April 20), chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu defended the head coach, saying it’s difficult to follow the domestic cricket while thinking about the national team at the same time.
Asked why Hathurusingha is not in Bangladesh at the moment to witness the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), Nannu said: “Now there are in total five people in the selection panel. The coach is also included here. But it’s difficult for him to manage the national side and watch domestic cricket at the same time. “He has a lot of work, He has to plan for every series. He has to plan with the players. Then he also has to coach. All in all there are too much workload on him. Had he been in the country, he would have definitely watched the domestic cricket. But he also needs some break after back-to-back series, So now we the other four are doing the work without him.”
