Abu Haider Rony was the greatest finding of the recently concluded third season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The young lad bowled with fore throughout the tournament and caught many eyes. Faruq Ahmed, the chief selector of the national team, is one of them who is highly impressed by Rony’s performance and considering him for the next level.
“Rony was playing good cricket for the Under-19s. He has got numbers of brilliant performances. We’d already had an eye on him. And now it’s real pleasure to see him doing well in the BPL as well. He played magnificently and I am very impressed with him. He bowled during tough circumstances and became successful. The way he applied the in and out cutters were very good. Now let’s see, we have got a camp ahead. We need to give him some more time,” said Faruk.
Faruk also opined that the batsmen like Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das and Anamul Haque Bijoy should be given enough support so that they can come out of streak of poor form. He said, “I won’t say it’s a matter of great. It’s natural for a player to go through bad phases. But no doubt they all are very good players and what they need the most at this time is the support to come ahead of jinx. Rather than just thinking of eliminating them out of the team, we have to work on how they can get back to form.”
