County clubs target Morkel on Kolpak deal

Three English county clubs have reportedly been trying to bring South Africa’s Morne Morkel in on a Kolpak deal. The clubs are wanting him to sign for 2018 county season.

Warwickshire and a London club (Surrey/Middlesex) are attempting for the Proteas star.

Morkel will turn 33 this October. It is learnt that he will earn a long-term deal to finish off his career being well-paid. South Africa have been suffering from Kolpak problems over past few years.

The Kolpak signings might be over as Britain decided to come out from European Union. So, it will be tough for Morkel and others to find a job in the UK.

Morkel was in superb form in the four-match Test series against England. He took 19 wickets in the series and was named Man of the Series. He was South Africa’s joint-leading wicket-taker in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 too.

South Africa lost Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw in January this year as they signed for Hampshire. Simon Harmer and Hardus Viljoen, who are of international standards, also moves to England for a luxury life.
