CPL 2020 schedule: Dates, fixtures, venues and squads

In good news to cricket fans across the world, Caribbean Premier League will be hosted this year and West Indies Cricket on Monday announced the schedule for the league. Due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, all the games will be held behind closed doors in bio-secure environments in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Caribbean Premier League will go all guns blazing on August 18 with the final scheduled to be held on September 10. It should be noted that CPL 2020 will be the first big-ticket franchise-based tournament to get started after the Covid-19 pandemic sabotaged the cricket calendar.

After that, Indian Premier League (IPL) will follow suit as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host the 13th edition from September 19 in the United Arab Emirates. “The 33-match season will be played in Trinidad & Tobago, with all matches taking place across two stadiums in that country. The Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba will host 23 games, including the semi finals and final, and the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain will have 10 matches,” a CPL release said.

Damien O’Donohoe, CPL’s CEO, is pretty much pumped up about the upcoming season. “This year will be a different CPL, but the standard will be higher than ever. We have seen the appetite for live sport since it has returned after a prolonged absence, and the interest in CPL will be higher than ever with it being the first franchise T20 tournament to return.”
