CSK-RR match records joint-most sixes in a single IPL match
The first encounter between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings last night was one of the highest run scoring matches in history of IPL. The match number four has recorded the joint-most number of sixes in a single match in IPL. While chasing a target of 216 given by Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super kings ended up losing the match by 16 runs.
A total of 33 sixes were hit in Match 4 of the IPL 2020. Same number of sixes were also scored during a match between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018. It was April 25, 2018, CSK were chasing a target of 205 given by RCB. Dhoni and Rayudu were batting and chasing the target. Rayudu hit sixes eight times in his knock of 82 off 53 balls. On the other hand, Dhoni hit seven sixes and remained unbeaten on 70 off just 34 balls. Two more sixes was later scored.
Before it RCB went with batting monster AB de Villiers who hit eight sixes and his countrymen Quinton de Kock hit four sixes. Later the duo, Mandeep Singh scored three and Washington Sundar one.
On Tuesday night, Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson hit nine sixes in his tremendous 74 runs inning’s. On the other hand, Australian batsman Steve Smith scored four sixes in his 69 runs inning’s. It was England all-rounder Jofra Archer, who charged on Protea pacer Lungi Ngidi went scoring 27 not out off eight with four sixes as RR finished with 17 sixes.
While chasing 216 target, CSK opener Watson hit four sixes in his innings of 33 off 21 balls. Faf du Plessis, played a tornado innings as he scored 72 runs included seven sixes. CSK needed 38 runs in the last over. Although, Dhoni tried to bring the match, he managed to score 20 runs including a hat-trick of sixes, which made it a total of 33 sixes in the match.
