Dhaka claim first win in low-scorer


Beximco Dhaka have won their first match in Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Fortune Barishal in a low-scoring encounter at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur.

Dhaka were set 109 to win on a sluggish track, which was Yasir Ali and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim guided home with seven balls to spare. The duo added 55 runs for the fourth wicket.

Yasir top-scored with unbeaten 44 runs off 30 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours. Mushfiqur played 34 balls for his 23* runs that included only one boundary.

Earlier in the chase, openers Robiul Islam Robi (2 off 12 and Naim Sheikh (13 off 20) were undone by run outs from Tanvir Islam in a slow start to the run chase. Tanzid Hasan Tamim hit 20-ball 22 before he perished to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 12th over.

Barishal, who were sent into batting first, put 108/8 on board. Robiul bowled off-spinners to scalp four wickets 20 runs, including the wicket of big fish Tamim Iqbal. Barishal skipper Tamim made run-a-ball 31 runs with the bat.

Tamim had a new opening partner – Saif Hassan, with whom the partnership lasted 4.4 overs for 27 runs as Saif (9 off 14) was trapped lbw by Robiul. Parvez Hossain Emon departed on the next ball for a golden duck.

Afif Hossain disappointed with the bat again, scoring a 7-ball duck. He was also Robiul’s scalp as he lofted one out at long-off.

In the end, it was Towhid Hridoy’s 33 off 33 that gave Barishal bowlers something to bowl at.

Left-arm seamer Shafiqul Islam was impressive again, bowling three overs for 2/10 including two maidens. Nayeem Hasan took 1/8 in four overs, one being a maiden.
