Dhawan likely to move to Daredevils
Reports have claimed that Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Shikhar Dhawan would be transferred to his first IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils in next year’s tournament.
Dhawan played for the Delhi-based franchise in the inaugural IPL in 2008. He then played for Mumbai Indians for a couple of years. He later joined Hyderabadi franchise Deccan Chargers, which was converted to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
The Delhi-born left-handed batsman has been the leading run-scorer for the Sunrisers. He scored 2768 in 91 innings at an average of 35.03 and strike-rate of 125.13. He amassed 497 runs at 136.91 in the last edition where SRH became the runners-up.
He and Australian David Warner is the third-most prolific pair of IPL, aggregating 2357 runs which is bettered by Chris Gayle-Virat Kohli (2787) and Kohli-AB de Villiers (2525).
Hyderabad did not retain Dhawan ahead of 2018’s auction. He was roped in by the same franchise at INR 5.2 crore (approx $820,000). According to sources, Delhi have handed Vijay Shankar (INR 3.2 cr), Shahbsz Nadeem (INR 3.2 cr) and Abhishek Nayar (INR 55 lakhs) to Hyderabad.
This is the first time teams are being able to exchange or release players in Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore sent South Africa’s Quinton de Kock to Mumbai Indians in exchange for cash. de Kock was the first transfer of IPL.
RCB and Kings XI Punjab have swapped Marcus Stoinis and Mandeep Singh for the next season. Stoinis, the Aussie, had been playing for KXIP in previous years.
The auction of IPL 2019 is scheduled to be held on December 16 this year. The twelfth IPL will run from 29th March to 19th May, which is 11 days ahead of 50-over World Cup. The transfer window will be open till November 15.
