Eoin Morgan reacts after heartbreaking defeat against Mumbai Indians
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was upset following the heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians in the just-concluded encounter at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
KKR had plenty of balls, wickets in hand to finish off the job but they failed to make use of the resources to better effect. But let’s not forget that Mumbai Indians rose from the ashes and managed to win this game.
MI won the game by 10 runs to open their account this season. Earlier, RCB won the game by 2 wickets against the defending champions. On the other hand, KKR won their opening game by 10 runs but lost to Rohit Sharma’s team in the second game.
Meanwhile, Eoin Morgan, while speaking to the broadcaster in the post-match presentation said that they played a great brand of cricket for most parts of the game.
The skipper also echoed that they did look comfortable in the run-chase but Mumbai made a fighting comeback to pull off the ropes. Morgan confessed that his team made blunders but at the same time added that they will sort out the woes.
“Yes, disappointing (to lose). Played some really good cricket for most parts of the game, we looked comfortable in the chase, but they are a strong team, came back well and sad that it didn’t work out for us. Made a few mistakes, will need to sort it out. A perfect game needs to be bold, it came to cost us in the last 10 overs of the game (not being bold enough to finish off the chase).
We needed to bat around and complete the chase – not quite sure what happened (speaking if the pitch tended to go slow in the second innings), in the games that have been played so far, barring AB de Villiers in the chase (in the RCB v MI game), that seems to be telling a tale (of teams struggling in the run-chase). We put ourselves in a good position to win today, but then not to win, that’s something we need to take care of,” Morgan said at the post-match presentation.
