First goal is to build connection with players: Domingo

After arriving in Bangladesh, the South African duo talked to the media for the first time in Mirpur on Wednesday. The newly appointed head coach Russell Domingo arrived just after an unsatisfied World Cup performance from Bangladesh and therefore, the former South African aims his first goal is to build a connection with the players.

“My immediate goal is to make some sort of connection to the players. Get to know the players and build relations on the next week or two. I think that’s massively important. Try and gain their trust, see how the players go on with their work. It’s mostly an observatory role in the next few days to see how they go on with their business and take some learning from it,” he said.

It’s needless to say that the fans in Bangladesh are the biggest critics of the team and each players feels the pressure whenever they fail to perform.

However, Domingo claimed it is no different in South Africa and he will try his best to keep his players away from the harsh or unnecessary comments.

“South Africa fans are no different. All international fans when your team loses comes hard at you. That’s part of it. I will try to keep the noise away from the team so that they can focus on the next performances and not get too distracted by what the people are writing and saying,” he concluded.
