Former SA cricketer sentenced to 18 years jail in rape case
Former South African domestic cricketer Dion Taljard has been sentenced to 18 years of jail after found guilty in rape case.
Right arm pacer Taljard represented Border in first class cricket had been accused of 19 counts of rape, two sexual assault cases and further intimidation. The former Proteas cricketer is now locating in United Kingdom after his retirement.
The victim, was reported to try to take her life at one stage, came forward bravely to file a case against the cricketer three years after the attack ended.
At Minshull Street Crown Corner in Manchester, Taljard was condemned by judge. 47 year old Taljard denied all cases against him and claimed the woman told some ‘lie stories’ to condemn him.
Taljard reportedly assaulted her physically, hold her by throat causing injury and pain.
