Gambhir discloses a Pakistani bowler against whom he loved batting the most
The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has had good, bad and ugly moments while playing against Pakistan during his heydays. From whacking bowlers out of the park to having an ugly spat with the likes of Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Gambhir has seen it all.
The cricketer-turned-politician doesn’t shy away from sharing his previous experience or incidents in cricket. Now, recently, he revealed a Pakistani bowler against whom he enjoyed batting the most.
On Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gautam Gambhir was asked to pick one player from Pakistan he enjoyed playing against the most. Everyone expected him to pick Shahid Afridi but the former India opener picked spinner Saeed Ajmal.
There is no doubt that Ajmal was one of the best spinners to have ever played for Pakistan. His superb potential to bowl the deceptive Doosra caused nightmares to best batsmen. Gambhir labelled Ajmal as someone tough to pick and has even rated Ajmal the toughest off-spinner he ever faced in his international career.
“One battle which I thoroughly enjoyed was against Saeed Ajmal. Because Ajmal was probably one of the toughest off-spinners I have faced, especially under lights as we couldn’t pick his Doosra. And the speed with which he used to bowl at, he was very very lethal,” said Gambhir.
During the chat, when Gambhir was asked to name one Pakistan player, he enjoyed verbal fights with the most, he indirectly mentioned Shahid Afridi. “The world knows about that. I absolutely loved it and even now,” Gambhir said without taking Afridi’s name.
