Guwahati to host two Rajasthan Royals home games
The Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati has been confirmed as the host for the two home games of Rajasthan Royals in the forthcoming 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The news has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday.
Rajasthan Royals, champions of the inaugural season of IPL, will now play Delhi Capitals & Kolkata Knight Riders on April 5th & April 9th respectively in Guwahati. Both games will have an 8 PM IST start.
However, the Steve Smith-led side will return to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur to play the remainder of their home matches, beginning with the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 21.
Rajasthan will begin their campaign of the season with the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 2.
This is not the first instance for Rajasthan to play their home games away from their base at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. They have previously ventured away during the 2010 (Ahmedabad) and 2015 (Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Brabourne Stadium) seasons.
Initially, the Royals franchise had requested the IPL to play three matches in Guwahati, but have received permission of two matches only.
“The Royals are bringing the IPL to the Northeast for the very first time, expanding cricket’s footprint in the region. See you in April, Guwahati!,” Rajasthan Royals wrote on their official Twitter handle.
