Had the dream to become first centurion for Afghanistan: Rahmat
Rahmat Shah’s dream turned into reality as he became the first Test centurion of Afghanistan on first day of the Test match against Bangladesh.
Afghanistan batsman Rahmat Shah had a dream to become the first Test centurion for his nation. He almost achieved it, he came very close but in the end, his dream was broken apart. He was out for 98 against Ireland, but the dynamic batsman didn’t give up and indeed, he became the first Test centurion after scoring 102 against Bangladesh on the first day of the Test match in Chittagong.
Rahmat expressed his happiness in the press conference after the end of day’s play.
“I had the dream to become the first centurion for Afghanistan. So naturally I was very upset when I got out scoring 98 against Ireland. Today I got the chance and scored the century. It is a proud moment for me. I am the first person to have the first half century [in Tests] for the country and now the century.”
The 26-year old also feels the wicket was really good to bat on and he trusted his front-foot and a steely resolve to help Afghanistan crawl back into the game.
“The wicket was good to bat on especially when the ball was new. When the ball was new, it was disturbing the batsman but as one settled down it became easy to play. It was my plan to play on the front foot. They were bowling in good line and length and had a good field setup for me. It was not easy for me to score runs that is why I was using the crease and coming on the front foot as well,” he concluded.
