Harbhajan picks Murali, Mushtaq, Lyon in top spinners list, ignores Ashwin
Who is the best off-spinner in the world? According to former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka is the claimant of the crown. However, the praise of Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq has been also heard in his words. Meanwhile, he has not included his country’s best offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the list.
In an interview with Rohit Sharma on Instagram Live, Harbhajan said, “Muralitharan will be at the top of the list.” Muralitharan has taken 800 wickets in Tests. He took 534 wickets in one-day cricket. He has the most wickets in both formats.
However, Harbhajan also praised Saqlain Mushtaq. According to him,
“Saqlain was different. He was a great bowler. No one else could catch him. He was a true match winner. Inevitably, he would attack between 45 and 50 overs. And he would definitely take a few wickets and win the team.”
Saqlain’s wickets in Test and ODI cricket are 208 and 288 respectively.
At the moment, Harbhajan has chosen Australia’s Nathan Lyon as his favorite off-spinner in international cricket. He also said that he liked England off-spinner Graeme Swann. Meanwhile, the name of Ravichandran Ashwin, who became the first Indian to take 250 wickets quickly, was not heard in Harbhajan’s words.
