Abu Hider: the next big thing in Bangladesh cricket
He has undoubtedly been the find of the BPL. He already had 17 wickets before this game, and was the joint highest wicket taker. He would have wanted to remove the word ‘joint’ from the previous line, and Abu Hider did exactly that, picking up 4 wickets in the first Qualifier match.
He had shown his talent before, but it was his opportunity to reach even greater heights. His first wicket was of Soumya Sarkar, where the credit was more of the fielder Shuvagoto Hom as the latter took a great catch at deep mid square leg. But the next three wickets belonged to him. Three pin point yorkers, one of them the ball of the tournament, and he got one motor bike for his 4/19.
He is only 19, but he already has shown that he has a great yorker and bouncer, as well as the ability to swing the ball. His pace is pretty good for a 19-year old, and it will increase over time. If BCB takes good care of him, we will soon have our own dream combination of Mustafiz and Hider, two left arm pacers capable of demolishing any batting order on sight.
It might be a bit early to dream such things, but Hider has given us the cushion to do so.
